Pumpkin carving--a fall tradition
Calleigh's pumpkin--Tobin Heath is one her favorite soccer players. Calleigh actually carved and lit her pumpkin.
Riley and his Hunger Games pumpkin--his was done with a different tool that does not carve completely through the pumpkin.
The newlyweds used the same technique as Riley and made a Celtic knot.

Not a very good photo, but this fat little squirrel is too cute! He has a nut in his paws--gathering stores for the winter.

Sunday afternoon means football and football food! Greg and Calleigh found these fun treats--Oreos and Snickers. Colts and Packers won today. Bengals lost to the Steelers--tragic!

Gasoline prices have been so high we have been tried to be conservative with unnecessary driving. Due to the upcoming election, gas prices have dropped and this afternoon Greg and I took a drive in a beautiful area we had never explored. The autumn colors were gorgeous as were the homes in the neighborhood. We had a lovely drive.

The Fayards are from Mississippi and are part of Ship to Shore Ministries. The focus of their work is distributing Bibles and tracts to the crews of the ships from countries all over the world--countries to which you cannot ship Bibles. What a brilliant idea for reaching people from so many countries with the gospel.
We spent some time after the service with them. He shared many hilarious stories about his Cajun buddies Budrow and Tibidow with us. I laughed so hard I cried. The Fayards were such a blessing to me.

I was feeling a little down this evening as it would have been my dad's 70th birthday. I needed a distration. So tonight we ate dinner at Rootbeer Stand which will be closing soon for the season, had dessert at DQ which will also be closing for the season soon (it was the best blizzard of the year-- Reese cup with hotfudge), and then went to Half Price Books. 1/2 Price Books can be feast or famine--it was a filling night to say the least. I don't even look in any section except clearance--this means my magazines were 50 cents each and my books were $2 each. My total was less than the original price of just one of the hardbacks. Calleigh did not find as many but everything she found was $2 and something she had been watching and waiting for. While this fun evening did not take away the ache inside, it did keep my mind otherwise occupied.

My homeschool co-op class is studying ancient Pompeii. Each student got to paint a section of our volcano. Hannah is working carefully. Later in the afternoon we made it erupt!

Pastor Sheridan Stanton and his wife, Anita are missionaries to Peru. They kicked off our Missions Conference for us tonight. This is the dear couple that opened their home to us on our trip to Peru in 2007--a Christmas gift from the Brook family!

Someone at work had told Greg that we should visit Troy some weekend as there was a good bookstore there as well as other fun shops and restaurants, so today Greg, Hadley, Daniel and I drove to Troy. We were not impressed. We found a bookstore and only one other shop that was open and warranted a look. We found no restaurant open. Greg told his friend how disappointed we were about our visit to Troy. Well, there had been some miscommunication and we were not supposed to visit Troy but instead we were to go to Tipp City!

Hadley stopped by Mother's after work today and we ran over to Trader Joe's and picked up some yummy fall treats. Do you see a pumpkin theme here?

I made a pot of what my family has dubbed "Mom's Endless Pot of Vegatable Soup". Greg loves when I make this beefy soup which always stretches to a couple more meals. It took a little juggling this time as I made it at Mother's and forgot to bring my soup pot and I had to split it into two pans.

The physical therapist took Mother outside for her walk today. It was chilly, but a lovely autumn day. I think it did Mother good to get out in the fresh air and sunshine, but I am sure the exercise was tiring.
October 9, 2012
Picked up another prescription for Mother today. I feel like I know the folks at Walgreens pharmacy!
October 8, 2012
I picked Hadley up to do a little shopping this morning. We found these Halloween cuties--Lindt chocolate truffles--so delicious!
October 7, 2012
I love having a room full of my kids and their friends! Lewis, Daniel and Riley are playing X-Box. I guess all the yelling means they are having a good time?!
October 6, 2012
Daniel's family has been thoughtful and shared one of their autumn traditions with our family--cider making! This is our third year to enjoy this fun and tasty event. This year our friend, Jessica, joined us.

I was glad to have to see the sun and blue skies from Mother's windows as we had to go to the hospital for an ultrasound due to the extreme swelling in her leg.
October 4, 2012
I spent some time at Mother's kitchen table recording notes and making follow-up visit appointments.
October 2, 2012
A dreary, rainy fall day. This is my view as I sit and read or knit in between helping Mother with various things.
October 1, 2012
Mother was released from the hospital today about 2:30. I am sure it was nice to be home and in her own bed.
September 30, 2012
Hadley and I bought Mother this pretty mum to place by her backdoor to welcome her home--maybe tomorrow.
September 29, 2012
Mother is doing much better today and we thank God for the success of the stent. Calleigh and Hadley are tired after a stressful time.
September 28, 2012
Things don't always turn out as we plan. While in recovery yesterday one of the nurses noticed that there was not a pulse in Mother's foot. Later that night they did an ultrasound and the results were not good. Early this morning she had vascular surgery during which a stent was put in her leg. This was the most favorable result of the possible outcomes and we are all relieved and thankful, as it was a very serious and worrisome day.

Greg, Calleigh and Riley enjoyed the day at the Renaissance Festival even though it was a rainy day. Greg especially enjoys the joust, Calleigh loves the shopping! I spent the day at Kettering Medical Center as Mother had her knee replacement surgery today.

Solo thought that her fur coloring made her part of my fall decorations and that she should make herself part of my dining room decor.
