NEED PHOTO FROM JENNIFER

This weekend did not turn out as planned.  We were supposed to get together to make Daniel and Hadley's wedding invitations.  We spent all evening Friday and began early Saturday morning only to realize by about noon on Saturday that the embossing power we had used must have been defective  as many of the inviations were smeared with red from the embossed parts on the invitations.  We had followed all the directions and had previously never had this happen while embossing.

Daniel took a distraught Hadley out for some "retail therapy" (nothing helps a girl like a shopping trip to Kohl's).  We contacted the company representative.  She was wonderful, but of course, nothing could be done since it was the weekend.

We put our heads together though and figured out what we could accomplish so that the weekend would not be a total loss.  We did complete all the envelopes, candy bags, favor boxes for showers, reprinted the invitations, and did all the steps for the invitations except for the embossing.

It is a blessing to do a project with friends, because even if things go wrong you can still enjoy each other's companionship.

This is my book journal.  I keep a list of all the books I read, their authors, time period in which they take place, and a note if I especially like or dislike them.  It is divided by year and so far this year I have read twenty-three.

Our crabapple tree was just beautiful this year and smelled lovely too.  I just had to take a photo as the blossoms only last about a week.  I have tried to take every opportunity to sit on the porch and enjoy it.

Today Calleigh, Hadley, Mother and I went to Columbus to see Celtic Woman.  We ate at a neat sandwich shop and then walked to the theater to enjoy the wonderful concert at the Columbus Palace Theater.  We had never been here before, it was beautiful.  This was Calleigh's sixth Celtic Woman concert.  What a fun evening.

One of my favorite things in life--a Diet Coke from McDonald's!

Violets, one of my favorite signs of spring!

Randy, Sharon and Shawn came up to see Mother so Hadley and I stopped by to say hello and wish Shawn a happy birthday (and have a piece of birthday cookie too!)

Fried Potatoes--a Saturday morning tradition that has been curtailed for months while Greg attended a Saturday morning Bible study.  We really enjoyed them and alas, will be deprived of this treat for another month as Greg will be attending a four week study from the movie Courageous.

For Valentine's Day Mother gave me a ticket to the upcoming Steve Green concert at Far Hills Church to benefit the Miami Valley Women's Center.  Tonight Mother, her friend, Anne, and I attended the concert.  He is one of the few artists I like that I had not seen in concert.  I not only enjoyed Steve Green's performance but loved the piano music performed by Dick Tunney so much that when Mother told me to choose a CD I picked his entitled An Ivory Sanctuary.  I am listening to it now and it is a beautiful instrumental CD.  Mr. Tunney has been with Steve Green for five years but is a Dayton native.  It a lovely, inspirational evening.

I have always loved front porches and porch swings. On rainy days when I was growing up my friends and I played cards and board games on our front porches and  I read for hours while swinging on our swing which I padded with a lawn chair cushion.  This particular swing used to be on my mother and father's front porch and the porch was always our favorite place to be while visiting.  Mother and I would visit over cups of tea before the kids woke up and then games, reading and joking would take over.  Many sunsets were oohed and aahhed over as we relaxed there in the evening.  It was the one thing I insisted I bring home last December when my mother moved from her home in Indiana to an apartment here in Dayton.  I pray that it is enjoyed as much here as it was in Indiana, Hobbes certainly seems to have taken a shine to it.

Calleigh and I began working on her senior book today.

March 20, 2012

This is taken outside Mother's apartment.  Calleigh, Mother and I went to Hobby Lobby (Calleigh had a project bee in her bonnet) today and I noticed they had on similar pink t-shirts.  Calleigh's said "Life is Good" and Mother's said "As Good as it Gets".  We had a fun time and Calleigh not only found what she needed but completed her project by the next day.

Today was picture day at co-op.  Angel took many shots of our great group of kids.  While she was busy doing individuals I took Calleigh and tried to get some senior shots.  I loved this one and after we clean it up a little we will probably get some wallets.

I like this one too!

And this one!

Are Calleigh and Tori cool or what?!

Today was Daniel's 21st birthday and we celebrated with a cook-out at his house.  (ADD PHOTOS OF DANIEL WITH CAKE  AND GIFT).  Hadley and Daniel are wearing one of our gifts to Daniel.

(INSERT PHOTO OF GREEN BREAKFAST!!!!!)

The day  began early with our annual tradition of Green Dinner, only in this year's case it was Green Breakfast.  As you can see we take St. Patrick's Day seriously.  And for our entertainment the World Famous Spoon on Your Nose Acrobats---Riley and Victoria.

Next in our busy day was dressing fitting/ordering from David's Bridal.  All the attendants were able to come except for Sara who was enjoying her spring break in Florida.

I could not resist this too funny shot of Jenn in her Geek glasses and Hadley in her Bride to Be specs.
Hadley thinks I should have resisted.

We ended the day at Sinclair's spring concert at St. John's church.  Hadley sang in both Chamber and Chorale.

A wonderful evening for a cookout at the Gammies!  Good food and friends!

A very familiar sight in my house.  Greg sleeping, but not just sleeping, SNORING, while the rest of us are either trying to watch a movie or read.  One of life's small (?) annoyances.  I would love to say I just ignore it, but it drives me crazy as I repeatedly ask him to just go to bed and leave the rest of us in peace!

Today Angel and I went scrapbook shopping at Archiver's in Mason and then enjoyed lunch at Chick-Fil-A.

I saw these beautiful daffodils while taking Hadley to organ lessons.  Spring has come to Dayton!

Tonight we met with Daniel's family to get the dads and brothers fitted for their wedding tuxes.  Riley was disappointed that there would be no bow-ties and no Converse.  He thought maybe one dress shoe and one Converse might be an okay look instead, but Daniel did not think Hadley would go for that either.

So much to do!  Items to add to the calendar, things that need accomplished by their deadlines and phone calls to make.  A graduation, a wedding, and a sixteenth birthday in four months time might be my undoing!

March 10, 2012

I came up with this idea to help Hadley accomplish some of her overwhelming wedding to-do list. I wrote one thing that needs done on each post-it. The post-its on the right side only require a small amount of time and can be squeezed in when she has a few minutes in the midst of all her school stuff, they are also in priority order.  The ones on the left are things that she and Daniel need to do together and will take more time. When a task is completed the post-it gets moved to the inside of the cabinet door until it can be marked off her master list.

Riley, Calleigh, Mother and I went bargain hunting today.  We all found a few good deals.

March 8, 2012

Calleigh spent today with Mrs. Williams.  She came home with a completed dress for the Jane Austen ball.   Isn't it wonderful how God gives us those special people who are willing to lend a hand just when we so desperately need one?

After we dropped Calleigh at the Williams's, Riley, Mother and I went to Wal-mart and then to lunch.  It rained sooo hard.  Riley and I got soaked loading the van with our Wal-mart purchases.  Then we got inside Chipotle and I realized I had left my wallet in the car.  Riley, my hero, went back out and found it for me.  He was soaked to the skin!

March 7, 2012

Today our co-op group attended a performance of Four Score and Seven Years Ago.  We have so enjoyed attending the Discovery Series plays over the years, we started going when Riley was about four.  We have used their shows as a supplement to many of  our studies, such ones about the underground railroad, King Tut, and the transcontinental railroad.  We have also seen some just for fun.  A few of our favorites have been Christmas Carol, Peter Pan, and The Mixed-up Files of Ms. Basil E. Frankweiler.

March 6, 2012

Riley asked me how I would explain this accident to Hadley.  I really did not mean to set the wedding guest list on fire!  I was hurriedly adding an address and as I flipped to the second page, it must have fell across the candle I had burning on the table.  I smelled it before I saw it and hastily blew it out.  Oh dear!

Both of these photos feature Cimorene, our calico cat.  She is such a sweetheart, but is always begging for Riley's breakfast.

On February 1, it was 64 degrees and the last week of February we even reached 70 degrees.  Now on March 4, it is cold and snowing!  This shot was taken before church this morning.  The snowflakes were so large and beautiful.

On the first Sunday of the month we have Fellowship Sunday which is a pitch-in lunch.  We enjoy a time of good food and fellowship.  In these photos Calleigh and Hadley are holding baby Luke.  What a cute and cuddly guy!

This is a photo of my quote book.  Calleigh got it for me this blank book for Christmas in 2005.  It took me many months to figure out what exactly I should write in it.  I finally decided to use it for a quote book and have been recording my favorite quotes in it since September of 2006.  What I have written varies from scriptures to wisdom past U.S. Presidents to thoughts from books I have read and even some bits from Einstein.  It is one of my all time favorite gifts and one of my favorite possessions.  I find it interesting to look back and see what quotes touched my heart, made me think, or seemed important to me at different times in my life.  I can generally remember what was significant that caused me to want to remember the quote at the time.  I am not a diary keeper, though have always wanted to be, but I have begun many and kept up with none.  But, I regularly add to my quote book and am thankful I have continued recording these bits and pieces so in the future I can look back and reflect on what I thought was worth remembering.
